Standard Chartered Bank is currently accelerating its Digital Transformation agenda and a key part of this transition is an investment into its Financial Markets electronic trading and e-commerce capability. To help deliver on this commitment, we have an exciting opportunity for a Java Development Team Leader to join our Global Rates and Credit eTrading Development Team that is distributed over London, Bangalore and Singapore.
In this role, you will work closely with the Delivery Lead, other Development Leads and Scrum Master to manage the delivery of multiple complex software development projects in a timely, controlled and predictable manner using Scrum methodology. In particular you will have a proven track record of agile development using Scrum and Agile and utilising test automation to its full potential ensuring delivery of new features in a timely manner. The development team are responsible for developing software as well as automated functional tests and performance test suites.
You'll use your strong coaching, facilitation and interpersonal skills to engage with the team and stakeholders and drive change and improvements with the whole development lifecycle. You will be the driving force for regular, predictable delivery and that automated testing in sprint is understood and enacted. You will have strong people skills as you will have responsibility to mentor, coach and manage a global Java development team in Bangalore and London.
From time to time you may be required to lead by example and help with some hands on development of key deliveries. You will own the engineering of test automation both for both functional and performance testing. The team are using a test-driven development model to ensure issues are picked up early in the dev lifecycle.
Key Accountabilities
  • Manage the end-to-end delivery of complex system solutions using Agile methodology, establishing and controlling project constraints and scope.
  • Manage relationships and communication with your team and all project stakeholders
  • Ensure the team adheres to scrum theory, practices and rules, and delivers to sprint commitments.
  • Provide clear ownership for and visibility of the resolution of all development risks and issues including obsolescence and adhere to the bank's standards for software delivery and architecture.
  • Lead improvements to the platform through technical and architectural improvements.
  • Ensuring the decisions made on development approach are documented and comply the SCB Software Delivery Framework. Ensure team practices are 100% compliant with bank SDF standards.
  • You will be the solution architect for our platform and own the relationship with our internal architecture team. You will be responsible for the annual architecture reviews and solution design/intent documents.
  • Provide clear and concise progress updates to key stakeholders including the Scrum Master, other Development Team Leads and support the Development Manager.
  • Business analysis to flesh out and document new requirements from the business, grooming Jiras so they are ready for the dev team to pick up.

Role Specific Technical Competencies:
  • Strong hands-on Java development skills
  • Good technical architectural knowledge, latest industry tools and trends and experience.
  • You will be the solution architect for our platform and own the relationship with our internal architecture team. You will be responsible for the annual architecture reviews and solution design/intent documents.
  • Re-engineering of existing Java components to provide a stable and maintainable platform for the business
  • Ability to provide L3 Production support and write documentation
  • Drive further adoption of scrum and agile methodology.
  • Ability to run projects end to end without monitoring
  • Experience of automated functional and performance testing using Gherkin/Cucumber. Own the development of automated functional and performance testing for all new development work undertaken.
  • Experience with React.
  • Experience in Spring Framework, Spring Boot
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills in a complex trading environment including pricing/trade capture issues.
SDLC Governance & Release Management
  • Ensuring the decisions made on development approach are documented and comply the SCB Software Delivery Framework. Ensure team practices are 100% compliant with banks software delivery standards.
  • Experienced at negotiating, planning and managing all release activities
  • Experience of producing deployment Run Plans in conjunction with Development Leads
  • Experience of adhering to a delivery assurance framework to ensure delivery risks are appropriately managed
  • Experience conducting release readiness reviews and business Go/No-Go reviews
  • Experience maintaining release schedules and ensuring alignment across key partners
Business Knowledge
  • Experience of working in the technology function of an Investment Bank, Financial Services Company or Technology Company.
  • Experience of working in a Front Office Trading technology department is preferred but not essential
  • Knowledge of the Rates & Credit business, Bonds and IRS are essential
  • Experience of fixed income D2C markets, price contribution and RFQ workflows
  • Knowledge of electronic trading platforms
Non-technical Skills
  • Enthusiastic, driven, self-motivated with a focus on client and customer service
  • Very strong interpersonal skills including facilitation and coaching and able to lead and influence others
  • Proven track record in helping teams mature their Scrum and Agile application. Have the communication and coaching skills to deal with strong personalities and senior team members and help effect change in team practices.
