Department overview

Treasury is an established function within the Finance division at Nomura. The department has regional teams in Japan, EMEA, AEJ and the US. In addition, Treasury has a team in Mumbai that provides management information and analytical support for the Global team.

Treasury operates across the three divisions of the Firm (Wholesale, Retail Brokerage and Asset Management) with responsibility for all aspects of unsecured funding and to manage liquidity and funding in accordance with board-mandated stress tests and in compliance with regulatory liquidity requirements.

The department is organised into two functions with strong global orientation:

Treasury Funding Desk - The Treasury Funding Desk performs four key functions:
  • Run the investment of the ~$20 bn regional liquidity pool (government and supranational bond repo investments)
  • Forecast, maintain and fund regional currency requirements (both business and legal-entity), primarily through FX swaps
  • Mandate and price short and long term debt issuances in private and public offerings including structured notes
  • Manage interest rate and FX risks related to the corporate division.


Liquidity Management - covers all aspects of liquidity risk management including; internal and regulatory stress testing, scenario analysis, forecasting, variance explain, risk mitigation, ILAAP, Policy and framework reviews. ALCO and Board MIS, reporting, new business, Contingency Funding Plan, business interaction, input into SWD and RRP from a Treasury perspective

Role description

The individual will be member of the EMEA Treasury Funding team (six individuals) covering activities for the Global organisation across London, Frankfurt and Paris based entities. The role involves working in a fast-paced environment and managing time-sensitive critical tasks in a controlled and logical manner. There is great scope for intellectual challenge in responding to the needs and proposals of the business. There is also a requirement for innovation and process improvement so the role would particularly suit an individual with a keen interest in digital innovation and the application of new fintech tools to drive change.

Key objectives critical to success:

The role's responsibilities include:
  • Investment of Liquidity Pool subject to regulatory and internal investment guidelines, and liquidity models.
  • FX swaps funding and execution across 30+ currencies with spot hedging of Balance Sheet exposures.
  • Conversion of USD funding curves to multi-currency issuance curves to support the Structured Issuance and ECP issuance programmes whilst ensuring adherence to policy and limits.
  • Take a lead role in the application of digital innovation and automation tools in daily funding desk activities to support a model of continuous process, efficiency and control improvement.
  • Communication and consultation with the business units on issuance, investment and hedging policies, and ensuring appropriate controls in place around funding requirements and behaviour .
  • Daily interaction with Cash Management, Secured Financing Desks in Fixed Income and Equities as well as other divisions to estimate funding requirements on a daily and forward-looking basis to maintain compliance with internal limit guidelines.
  • Identification and realisation of funding efficiencies, execution optimisation and risk mitigation opportunities, including close collaboration with the local capital and collateral teams.
  • Calculating key internal Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP) rates such as Wholesale Cost of Funds (WSCoF), Contingent Liquidity Reserve Rate (CLRR) and Liquidity Pool Yield (LPY), which drive desk-level funding behaviour and P&L.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, credit and management-imposed liquidity and risk management requirements.
  • Maintenance of liquidity facilities at local central banks.


Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:

Essential
  • 5yrs+ experience in a front office Treasury role, (Treasury/ EMTN/ Money Markets desk).
  • Experience of trading in Repo / T-bill purchase for Liquid Asset Buffer management.
  • Strong control mindset and understanding of Front Office Supervision frameworks and risk management best practices.
  • Outstanding Excel skills.
  • Inquisitive, analytical and logical mindset with thorough approach to execution and problem solving.
  • Interest in challenging the status quo, with track record or genuine interest in transforming process as part of a "continuous improvement" approach to automation.
  • Track record of project leadership and completion.
  • Collaborative with strong networking skills.

Desirable
  • Experience in trading FX swaps / Overnight Index Swaps / Interest Rate Swaps.
  • VBA or Python experience.
