Summary of Duties:

We are looking for experienced candidates to join our Business Development team in Ottawa to deliver on our mandate of creating trade opportunities for Canadian exporters and investors. In the role of the EDC Senior Officer/Global Trade Director you will leverage your extensive global professional network, business development skills, personal industry expertise and knowledge of Canadian capabilities and global supply chains to generate and nurture new export business opportunities for Canadian exporters and investors.

The Global Trade Director, International Demand will work with a virtual team to establish and manage relationships with leading foreign buyers in selected markets, assess their business challenges and identify opportunities for Canadian companies with relevant capabilities and value propositions to solve those challenges. The successful candidate will have strong business development skills, a deep understanding of sector trends, international procurement practices and of Canadian capabilities in one of the following industries:
  • Cleantech
  • Water/Wastewater
  • Infrastructure

The ideal candidate will also have sound knowledge of the value chains in their sector of expertise and understand the Canadian ecosystem and supply chain. The position will focus on identifying and working with Canada's most innovative suppliers and service providers with the goal of promoting and introducing these Canadian companies to international business opportunities.

They will apply that knowledge and their business developments capabilities to help Canadian companies "Go, Grow, and Succeed" in the international arena.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.

Education:

Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.
  • Undergraduate Degree (or equivalent professional designation) in Administration / Finance or a in relevant discipline.

OR
  • an acceptable combination of education, training and work experience related to the duties and specific areas of competence required by the position, including but not limited to business or economics.

Language:
  • Professional/advanced level of written and spoken English

Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of combined business development and technical advisory experience in one of the relevant sector/areas of responsibility (Cleantech, Water/Wastewater, Infrastructure)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing major projects in one or more of the following areas: Cleantech, Water/Wastewater, Infrastructure.
  • Experience working within a well-developed and global professional network

Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.
  • Ability to speak in French language.

Operational Requirements:
  • Hours of work: Normal hours of work for this position are in accordance with Locally-Engaged Staff regulations of 37.5 hours per week.
  • Ability to work overtime, when needed, and on short notice.
  • Location of work: London - Work is normally performed on-site in London with flexibility for teleworking.
  • Travel Requirements: This position might require travel throughout Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) and internationally as well as to Canada.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
