Who we are looking for
The primary function of the Valuations Team is to support State Street's valuation activities by ensuring all Funds are valued, reviewed and validated within the required deadlines, in accordance with regulatory requirements and the Valuations and Unit Pricing Framework. To support State Street's growth and internationalization strategies, the Valuations Team will need to evolve as a centre of excellence, delivering outstanding value, contributing to the development of innovative solutions, implementation of new processes and strategies designed to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery, against clients varying investment objectives and demands.

The role of the Valuations Manager is to drive the strategic vision into an effective operating model, ensuring the infrastructure in Investment Operations provides effect support for the growth of the global markets business. This is a high profile position with a strong focus on development of the team and function. Role combines high levels of technical expertise with substantial line management accountability, and ultimate accountability for a substantial part of the operational process.

What you will be responsible for
As a Valuations Manager you will

  • Drive and proactively manage the Valuations Team and Function Company wide.
  • Contribute to the development of the global operations strategy, deploy and embed the strategy as necessary through direct reports/staff.
  • Evolve the team structure and service provision to support a global operating model.
  • Ensure the system infrastructure supports the global business strategy and enables an efficient and secure operational service delivery in compliance with all internal and regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver outstanding value by leading transformational activities and developing innovative solutions and strategies designed to increase productivity with own and across other departments, internally and externally, using effective communication and leadership.
  • Constantly challenge the established methods and look to drive new ideas through the buy in and enthusiasm from your team.
  • Continuous review of team procedures, policies, systems and issues. Oversee the implementation of agreed changes.
  • Work closely with senior manager/peers fostering credibility and influence towards developing a reputation of operational excellence across the firm.
  • Ensure superlative service levels are maintained to both internal and external parties.
  • Ensure key stakeholders are receiving a service which meets their expectations.
  • Co-ordination and production of management information. Ability to handle and interpret data to enhance the decision marking process, through effective use of IT where appropriate.
  • Draw on industry initiatives to improve State Street's processes.
  • Responsible for sharing market information to relevant internal departments. Identify issues/changes which impact teams across Global Operations, initiating projects/working parties where applicable.
  • Influence service providers to continuously raise service standards in order to meet our expectations.
  • Manage short to medium term resource and succession plans for the department; and equip Supervisors with sufficient knowledge to effectively recruit and develop team members when required.
  • Recruit, manage, train and motivate team members on a cost effective basis, seeking continuous improvement in both quality standards and productivity.
  • Ensure team proficiency by means of pro-active and robust staff performance. Proactively identify training and development needs of staff/team which provide a focus for delivery in line with strategy/organisational requirements. Setting and cascading strategic business and departmental objectives to Supervisors to enable them to set realistic business-focused team targets.
  • Maintain technical capability for job, keeping abreast of market and industry developments.
  • Reporting weekly and monthly department progress to manager with an action plan for proposed resolution when targets are not being achieved.
  • Robust sponsorship of projects/initiatives. Provide leadership and planning for the future infrastructure, proposing new directions and technologies, driving analysis of said technologies to determine feasibility of adoption.
  • Lead disaster recovery efforts from an infrastructure standpoint, ensuring redundancy of key hardware and data to mitigate major business losses in the event of a disaster.

  • Thorough understanding and in depth experience of all aspects of Investment Management.
  • Demonstrable excellent leadership and people management skills. Ability to inspire, lead and engage with people at all levels to bring about change.
  • Demonstrable background in the delivery of change.
  • Proven track record of dealing with and influencing across an organisation and at all levels of management.
  • Strategic and focused approach to delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborative and personalised approach to service commitment.
  • Confident liaising across, Front Office, Global Operations environments.
  • Evidence of effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Flexible, adaptable and able to multi-task in a fast paced and changeable environment.
  • Ability to grasp issues, find creative and innovative solutions to problems.
  • Proven experience successfully managing multiple projects and producing quality deliverables on time and within budget.
  • Ability to successfully debate and subsequently influence internally & externally
  • Excellent in communication skills are essential in order to optimise cohesiveness and efficiency with the department.
  • Good analytical and written skills
  • Ability to present to senior management.
