The role:

The Business Manager (BM) for Retail & Savings Finance will support the Retail & Savings CFO in the effective performance of their responsibilities. This is a great role to gain a broad experience of the Retail & Savings business, the Finance function, and the wider M&G plc Group. The BM will be expected to have strong people and communication skills. They will provide value through applying technical and commercial expertise, supporting delivery of successful outcomes, and challenging where appropriate. The successful candidate will be a strong self-starter with a positive and proactive attitude and able to manage and prioritise competing demands.

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the BM will be support to the R&S CFO, whose activities span three key pillars:

  • As CFO for the Retail & Savings business and business partnering activity across the three pillars of the R&S business, i.e. Wealth, Heritage and Corporate Risk and Investment Solutions (CRIS). This includes duties as regulated CFO / SMF2 and Board member of the Prudential Assurance Company (PAC), the key legal entity within R&S;
  • Group-wide responsibilities comprising Financial Planning & Analysis, Shareholder Financial Strategy, Group Treasury, and With-Profits management;
  • As a member of the M&G plc Finance Leadership Team, which entails responsibilities and supporting initiatives across the wider M&G plc Finance function.

In connection with these, the BM is responsible for the following:

Retail & Savings CFO activity
  • Support the R&S CFO and partnering teams to build robust and coherent financial plans for the R&S business, with subsequent performance management
  • Help shape the broader Retail & Savings story through a financial lens, both for internal audiences, and external audiences in collaboration with the Investor Relations team
  • Assist the R&S CFO in driving and prioritising various strategic Finance initiatives and projects to optimise the performance of the R&S business
  • Assist the R&S CFO in preparation for R&S leadership meetings

PAC SMF2/Board/Regulatory activity
  • Support preparation for Board meetings and committees (e.g. Audit, Risk, With-Profits Committee), including writing of papers, updates and presentations
  • Support preparation for meetings with regulators (PRA, FCA)
  • Assist the R&S CFO in ensuring that a robust risk and control environment is maintained, both within the team, and with links to teams external to but on whom reliance is placed (e.g. Financial Reporting, Methodology & Assumptions, etc.).

Group
  • Support the coordination and creation of robust commercial, capital and liquidity plans and narrative across the Group
  • Build relationships to help drive projects and initiatives across Finance and wider teams

Team management
  • Support the R&S CFO in broader team management aspects, e.g. cross-team communication and events, driving analysis and actions from staff surveys, talent management, etc.
  • Track and manage costs across component teams, including identification of actions to ensure that overall cost targets are met

Group Finance Leadership team activity
  • Ensure the team's activities and actions are aligned with and contribute to the delivery of the wider Group Finance function's OKRs
  • Contribute to wider Finance initiatives, including driving the wider People agenda and making Finance a great place to work

Across each of these activities, the EBM will be expected to support on various ad-hoc projects and requests as necessary.

You will have:
  • Significant experience of influencing outcomes and managing complex relationships at senior level
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and organisational skills
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Significant experience of providing support to complex, diverse, ambiguous projects
  • Significant experience of analytical techniques
  • Understanding of Financial Services regulatory and legislative frameworks
  • Understanding of customer, business and markets
